Early Season at its Finest

La NiƱa years typically equal snow for the Northwest and Northern Rockies. To much delight, those predictions have rung true and brought us Jacksonites an early Christmas present in the form of massive amounts of snow. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort secured record pre-season snowfall and opened "wall-to-wall" It's been amazing so far, and besides the fact that people are just barely in-shape enough to ride, we've had a blast.

Rock Springs powder turns - Day 2 of JHMR.

First time we've seen Cody Peak in a while. Gorgeous day.

New to the resort this year is a series of terrain parks design by Burton called the "Stash Parks." They are placed in random locations all over the resort and contain (fairly massive) terrain park features made out of natural materials...aka tree jibs, bird's nest pillows, wall rides, etc. I thought the wall ride would be pretty sweet to shoot on a random snowy day.

David hittin' the Stash Park.

Finally, we started our morning right today with a "dawn patrol" up at Teton Pass. My friend Julie had an early appointment so she and our friend Robin convinced us to get up for a sunrise lap. Needless to say, it was totally worth it. Who needs sleep anyway when you can snowboard?

Earn your turns -- you won't be disappointed.

On another non-snowboarding related note, I've had some pretty sweet views from work lately. The elk are migrating back to the elk refuge and I guess the Amangani is on their way. I've been checking out these guys for the past week or so. Such beautiful animals.

Photo Show...Finally!

Photographs are fantastic, but there is just something about seeing a finished product that puts them all together that really gets me excited. When I was at High Cascade Photo Workshop last year, all of the photographers teaching (Tim Zimmerman, Andy Wright, Christy Chaloux, Cole Barash, & Bud Fawcett) showcased their photographs from the previous season in a slideshow set to music. Each photographer had chosen just the right music for their show and it gave me the chills to watch them. Inspired by that, I decided to make a slideshow of all of my favorite photos from this season in Jackson Hole. I made the show on PhotoDex ProShow Gold. It was a blast putting it together and it really gave me something to do (and obsess over waaayyy too much) during my vacation in Seattle. Let me know what you think and most of all, enjoy!

Side Note: If you want to view it in HD (it's much cooler) then just click on the photo's title and it will take you straight to my Vimeo site.

Three Days of Peace

I've been so busy this past week I realized I haven't updated my blog in what seems like forever. Where do I start? Well, work has been a zoo. With President's Day weekend and the week following, we've had a pretty large number of tourists to deal with. It's been gorgeous and sunny outside so there are plenty of opportunities for beautiful shots. For the first time in a while I've been making money at my job.

I wrapped up the weekend with a morning hike up Mt. Glory and shooting a wedding in the afternoon. I can't think of anything more romantic for two die-hard snowboarders than getting married at the top of the tram. Here's a shot of the newlyweds riding off into the setting sun. Congratulations Cindi & Brian!

On Tuesday I finally got a chance to have some "me" time. David and I started off the morning with a photo session in the big park. He's really progressed this year and it's been super fun being on the opposite side of the lens doing all of the documenting. Latest trick: backside 900. Check it here:

I also got some photos from a few new angles too which I was super stoked about. It gets hard to find new angles and to get creative on the same features all the time but I was really happy with what we came up with!

I love shooting photos, but one of my favorite parts of the week was progressing my own riding. I spent Tuesday and Wednesday riding in the small park to practice my jumps and also riding switch. It really felt good to take a day like that to just practice. By the end of the day I could make it down the bunny hill with my opposite foot forward without falling. Woohoo!

Today was another epic day with 9" of new snowfall! It's been weeks since we got a big dump so I grabbed some friends and hit the slopes. I rode with David, Anna and her roommate Michael for most of the day. We really had an awesome time and ended the day with a lap through Rock Springs and margaritas at the Moose. Couldn't be better :)
